Delicious trifle dessert recipe low fat and sugar free,Desert and pumpkin trifle. Desert doesn't have to be nonexistent -- and it doesn't have to be boring and tasteless, either, if you want a low-fat, low sugar version. Even if you're watching your weight (and who isn't?), indulge in a delicious Trifle dessert recipe that is easy to make, too.
Assembling a Trifle dessert
Actually, this is one where you can truly be creative and try your own, too, in that a Trifle dessert is very easy to assemble often with just the ingredients you have on hand. The only thing you'll absolutely have to have to make a trifle is a glass bowl so that guests can see the layers of the dessert before you serve it. Punch bowls work very well for this purpose.
In general, when you assemble a trifle, you want some kind of "crunchy" layer, such as cookies, or a spongy layer, such as that made of cake. You alternate the cake/cookie layer with something creamy, like pudding, and then top with a whipped topping. Chill, and it's ready to serve. The trifle desert is very easy to assemble, and you can even experiment with your own recipes.
Easy low fat pumpkin trifle
Here's a recipe to try that combines a myriad of flavors for texture and sweetness, but it's low-fat and low in sugar, too. The best part is, it's also packed with pumpkin goodness, so it's healthy for you too, and rich in vitamin A and that all-important substance, fiber.
Trifle Dessert Recipe:
Ingredients
* 3 cups milk, skim
* 2 small packages of instant sugar-free, fat-free pudding mix, vanilla flavored
* 1-15 ounce can of pumpkin, solid pack
* One-quarter teaspoon nutmeg, three-quarters teaspoon of cinnamon and a quarter teaspoon of ground ginger OR 1 1/2 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice (available in grocery stores)
* 1 and 2/3 cups of gingersnap cookie crumbs, from crushed ginger snap cookies
* 2 1/2 cups of sugar free or low sugar and low-fat whipped topping like Cool Whip
In a large mixing bowl, combine pudding mix and milk, beating at high speed for two minutes; place pudding in refrigerator and chill to set, five to 10 minutes, and then add pumpkin and spices, stirring (folding) until thoroughly mixed, but not beating the ingredients together.
Putting the pumpkin trifle together
In a large punch bowl or other clear glass bowl, sprinkle two thirds of a cup of the gingersnap crumbs on the bottom, then spread the pumpkin/pudding mixture over the crumbs. Spread whipped topping on top of the pudding, completing the process with another two-thirds cup of gingersnap crumbs and the rest of the pudding. Place the rest of the whipped topping (1 cup) on top of the trifle in a decorative "dollop," then sprinkle with the remaining gingersnap cookie crumbs for garnish. Chill and then serve.
