Incredibly delicious low fat southern pecan pie recipe with applesauce.

The South is known for its wonderful sinfully rich foods and nowhere can you sample that richness better than by enjoying a rich sugary piece of Southern Pecan pie.

While this dessert is tastefully delicious, it is sure to ruin almost any diet. Though high in calories, this dish can be made relatively low in fat content for those who need to cut down on their fats. However, due to the high calories and sugar content this dessert should be enjoyed sparingly and less often than other more healthy dessert choices.

Semi Low Fat Southern Pecan Pie recipe

Ingredients:

3 eggs

1 cup sugar

1 cup corn syrup

2 T. unsweetened Applesauce

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup pecan halves

1-9 inch pie shell

Southern Pecan Pie Recipe:

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit

In medium mixing bowl beat eggs slightly and then add sugar and beat again

add the corn syrup mixing that with the other ingredients

Mix in the rest of the ingredients and pour into a 9 inch pie shell

Bake in oven at 400 degree Fahrenheit for 15 minutes

Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees and bake an additional 35 to 45 minutes or until the pie is brown and slightly puffed and set in the center.

Remove from the oven and cool for at least two hours before serving.

In this dessert, applesauce was substituted for the butter that normally is used. Please keep in mind that while this Southern Pecan recipe is lower in fat than the traditional recipe, it is far from being fat free so small portions are in order. This pie should be served with a meal that is lower in fats that normal to help balance the fat content of the overall meal.
