Homemade Tomato Sauce Recipe:
What You Need
* 1/4 cup EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)
* ¼-1/2 teaspoon of hot pepper flakes
* 1 teaspoon of celery seed
* ½ teaspoon marjoram
* 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
* 1 Vidalia onion diced
* 1/3 cup grated Romano cheese
* 6 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
* 4 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme leaves *( can use 2 teaspoons of dried thyme)
* ¾ cup grated carrots
* 2 (28-ounce) containers of crushed tomatoes -do not drain
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 box of whole wheat pasta (cooked al dente)
* *fresh, whole basil leaves and curley parsley as a garnish
Homemade Tomato Sauce Recipe:
Begin heating the EVOO in a 3-quart saucepan.
Cook the garlic and onion in the EVOO over medium heat until they have caramelized. (About 5-10 minutes)
Add the carrots and celery seed and continue cooking for another 5-6 minutes
Add thyme, marjoram, hot pepper flakes and ginger.
Stir to combine all of the flavors.
Add the tomatoes
Cook over med/high heat until the mixture reaches a boil
Reduce the heat setting and allow the ingredients to simmer and thicken for 20-35 minutes.
For richer taste you may add the pasta to the sauce when the cooking process has been completed.
*Add salt to season to your taste.
*Use parsley and fresh basil leaves as a garnish if you wish.
