If you buy pre-made appetizers, even those that have labels that say “healthy choice” or something like that, you will be buying foods that are processed with too much sugar and other preservatives. Furthermore, you won’t be able to control the saturated fat content, and if you’re not careful you’ll find yourself eating a load of unhealthy hydrogenated oils.

So, now that we have this knowledge that we have to buy our own ingredients and make our own munchies, we need some healthy appetizer recipes. And wouldn’t it be great if these healthy appetizer recipes were also easy to make? Fortunately, there are such recipes. One of these is Apricot Canapes.

Healthy Appetizer Recipes:

Low Fat Ingredients:

16 dried apricots*8 Tsp chunky bleu cheese dip or dressing*(Low Fat)2 oz chopped shelled pistachios½ Tsp honeyGround black pepper

*It’s best to get these ingredients from an organic foods store or the organic foods section of your supermarket.

Preparation (Simplicity Itself):

Top each one of the apricots with ½ tsp of the bleu cheese. Drizzle honey over each. Sprinkle each with the pepper and pistachios. Time to serve!

Next, for those who may love a creamy app, let’s look at Crab Quesadillas. This recipe contains some delicious healthy fats, too.Healthy Appetizer Recipes:

Low Fat Ingredients:

8 oz crab meat (drain if packed in water)*4 8" soft tortillas1 cup shredded cheese (just pick your favorite or what you think will be the party favorite)"Low Fat"2 oz cream cheese, softened(Low Fat)4 scallions, chopped½ medium red bell pepper, finely chopped⅓ cup fresh cilantro, chopped1 tsp freshly grated orange zest1 tbs orange juice2 tspn canola oil or olive oil

*May substitute imitation crab meat.

Preparation:

1) Combine shredded cheese, cream cheese, scallions, cilantro, bell pepper, orange zest, and orange juice in a medium bowl. Gently stir in the crab meat. Lay tortillas out on a flat surface. Spread 1/4th of the filling on half of each tortilla. Fold each tortilla in half and press down gently to flatten.

2) Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place 2 quesadillas in the pan and cook for no longer than 4 minutes. Turn each once. Should be golden brown on both sides when removed from pan. Transfer quesadillas to a cutting board and cut into 4 wedges. Repeat with the remaining quesadillas and teaspoon of oil. Cut each quesadilla into 4 wedges.

These healthy but delicious appetizers are perfect for nearly any gathering where a main course will also be served. You can research plenty more of them, too.
