Chocolate Caramel Pecan Pie

Incredible low fat chocolate caramel pecan pie with cream cheese and it's delicious. Thanksgiving and Christmas just wouldn't be the same without that pecan pie, especially if you live in the South.

This rich nutty dessert is a real favorite among those who love pecans. Each year new twists on this old favorite are presented and some fail and others are big hits. One newer twist on this favorite holiday is dessert is extremely delightful to try. It is called Chocolate caramel cream cheese pecan pie and it is simply wonderful.

For those who are on a low fat diet, holidays are a time when you need to be extra careful and limit the indulging. And while this recipe has about 3o grams of fat the saturated fat in this pie is only 8 grams. So, during your meal skip the gravy, and all those buttery sauces, and stick to a small piece of turkey breast and those healthy fruits and vegetable because this dessert is going to be worth it.

Chocolate Caramel Pecan Pie


1 9 inch prepared pie crust (you can get them all ready in the pie pan ready to go)

1-8 oz. Package low fat cream cheese softened

½ cup sugar

2 whole eggs and 3 egg whites

1 cup chopped pecans

1-12 ounce fat free caramel topping

Chocolate Caramel Pecan Pie


Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

In a small bowl beat the cream cheese, 1 egg, sugar and vanilla until the mixture is smooth. Pour into the pie crust and sprinkle heavily with pecans so the mixture is covered.

In another small bowl mix in remaining egg and egg whites with the caramel topping until well blended. Pour over the pecans and cream cheese.

Bake in oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 to 45 minutes or until cream cheese layer is done.

Serves 8-10 people

By substituting egg whites for whole eggs and low fat cream cheese for regular cream cheese you cut the amount of saturated and overall fat down by about 4 grams a serving which may not seem like a lot but, for those on a heart healthy diet may mean the difference between being able to enjoy this rich dessert and passing in by. Also keep in mind, that having a ½ serving of any dessert not only eliminates ¼ the fat but, half the calories as well while still allowing you to have your pie and eat it too.

Always remember that preparing those low fat foods is only half the battle when eating heart healthy. Making healthy choices, and cutting portions when needed will help you to enjoy more of the foods you love without feeling as though you are sacrificing. The idea is to reduce saturated fat in your diet not fore go those things you love.

So by all means, keep finding and making those delicious low fat recipes, and moderate your portion sizes to allow you to eat more of the foods you enjoy. That way you can have the best of both worlds.
